Clay & Cloth Studio

Fiber Arts Collective – Ashland, Oregon

Check out our local Fiber Arts Collective – a fabulous combination of art gallery, working studios and fabric/notion shop – https://fiberartscollective.com/

As a member of the Fiber Arts Collective I show in the art gallery plus I manage the website and the library. I am also a workshop instructor.  A sample of workshops I have provided are shown below.

Rock Looping

Looping on a River Rock

Using waxed threads we will explore looping techniques on a selection of river rocks.  This technique has endless application and can be used to cover a variety of materials.

Coiling on a Unique Handmade Clay Base

Have fun learning how to coil a basket top onto a clay base and take home a unique and beautiful pot/basket. You will have your choice of a variety of fired and glazed bases with holes punched along the top for you to secure raffia coils onto. We will try different coiling techniques and materials. When done you will finish off your raffia top with a coating of beeswax to preserve it.

Brush Making & Mark Making Exploration

Expand your mark making potential by learning how to make your own brushes to use on paper and fabric. You will make 5 different brushes and learn how to use them to make free and organic shapes on your chosen media. This is a fun and expressive way to loosen up your creative juices.

Flour Paste Resist Printing Workshop

In this workshop you will have fun creating abstract patterns on fabric using flour paste resist. You will learn how to prepare the flour paste resist and apply it to fabric, create patterns and print the fabric with paint, and then finally remove the resist to reveal a unique pattern.

June 2022 Featured Artist

Join us on Friday, June 3rd for First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 pm.

This month we feature work by Gayle Erbe-Hamlin. Gayle’s works will focus on her experience as a resident at PLAYA in Summer Lake, Oregon.  Working in fiber and clay, she reflects on the amazing landscape of the area as well as the deep presence of the First Peoples who occupied the region more than 14,000 years ago.  Gayle sees her work as a process, which means it is never quite finished. She will share pieces as they are in the moment but knows that work will resume on them as she continues her dialog with them through space and time.

On Friday, June 3rd, at 6:00 pm, Gayle will give a presentation about her her art work and her experience at PLAYA.
